IK Multimedia ARC featuring MultEQ
" . . . Listening to the results I have to say I was astonished by what I heard. The boominess had virtually gone, as had the lopsidedness. The midrange sang with improved clarity and the stereo imaging was noticeably better too . . . The results were far beyond what I would have thought possible for those speakers in those positions!" Bright, rich texture
"The sound was slightly brighter, more forward, and richer in texture. The Flat setting really narrowed down the soundstage, collapsing toward the center speaker. With Audyssey turned off, the sound was very uninvolving, but the Bypass L/R mode sounded the worst of all of them. In the end, I proved to myself that Audyssey works very well and I recommend it if your AVR has the option." Read more.

What's the downside?
"This is the sort of sonic upgrade that audio fanatics pay thousands of dollars to achieve. But here it is, built-in to a $1,500 AVR. Amazing . . . Whether your room is untreated, fully treated or designed from the ground up for superior acoustics, Audyssey can improve the sound in ways that are not possible by any other method. Others seem to fight Audyssey tooth and nail, but in the several months of using this AVR with Audyssey, I don't hear a downside." Read more.

A remarkable achievement
"The Audyssey Sound Equalizer is a remarkable achievement in the psychoacoustic modeling of what one actually hears in rooms . . . The Sound Equalizer seems to me an automatically recommendable device for home-theater and surround purposes. It is all but impossible to set up a multichannel system with all the speakers in anything like ideal positions for flat in-room response. The Sound Equalizer will solve this problem convincingly, and for several listeners. There is nothing else like it at a reasonable price (that I know of) for this purpose." Read more.

Jaw-dropping improvement
"The company Audyssey has an amazing little box called the [Sound Equalizer] . . . An installer will come, measure several spots in your room, and then the box will EQ out (or at least minimize) many of the problems in your room. This will make any speaker system sound a whole lot better. The demos I've heard of this product have been jaw-dropping." Read more.

A remarkable piece of audio technology
"Once you discover how much the room interferes with your speakers' true performance potential, it's shocking . . . From rock, to jazz, to explosive soundtracks, everything was simply more coherent with the processing engaged. What amazed me most was that, no matter where I sat, there was no perceptible change in tonality . . . This is a truly impressive and remarkable piece of audio technology." Read more.

A mind-boggling value
"I can think of no product in recent memory that has been the cause of so many moments of sheer amazement . . . Everything, and I mean everything, is more defined, more spacious, more dimensional and overall more real when the Audyssey EQ is fired up. It's simply magical what the Audyssey EQ can do . . . a mind-boggling value." Read more.

The best sound from seat to seat
"The Marantz SR8001's piéce de résistance is the receiver's Audyssey Laboratories MultEQ automated speaker setup/room EQ system . . . The MultEQ system takes the guesswork out of speaker setup . . . The end result is uncannily well-balanced sound for every seat in the room."
Chris Martens, The Perfect Vision, April/May 2007
