True iPhone Stories Winners
To celebrate our new Audyssey Audio Dock, we asked you to send in your iPhone stories for our True iPhone Stories Contest – and you delivered! We expected lots of destroyed phones, but your excellent stories made us laugh, some cry, some, cringe…but they all revealed just how connected we are to your deserving iPhones.
Here are our three favorites:
Marvin Waters’ story “iLucky” reveals how autocorrect can cause trouble, though sometimes. It’s for the best. He writes:
“One dark and stormy night I was in a text conversation with a girl I had always liked, but never had the courage to express my feelings to. Now everyone loves a good autocorrect, they give a good laugh now and then, but you never want your phone to autocorrect “It’s so stormy, I really wish I could have you over right now” into “I’m so steamy, I really wish I could have you hard right now.” Not only did my phone ask for a sexual deed from a girl that I long harbored feelings/desires for, it goes ahead and dies as I frantically text back a correction! Right as it dies I see her return text “ohh wow.” “OH CRAP!” I shouted, and jumped up to look for my charger. Unfortunately my charger seemed to be in league with my phone and was nowhere to be found. I must have looked for 15 minutes before giving up. Sitting down with my head in my hands I’m startled when I hear a knock on my front door. At this late hour, I have a sinking feeling in my gut, it could only be one person. I walk to the door, prepared to be scolded, diminished, and beat down for my phone’s betrayal. I open the door, and there she is, looking adorable with her hair plastered around her face from the rain, cheeks and nose just a little red, and big green eyes looking up at me. I let her in, and just as I am about to launch into a four-part apology she jumps into my arms and kisses me. Needless to say, the night was indeed very ’steamy.’ “
Ali Ruffolo-Flecke writes about persevering through the worst of times with the help of the iPhone:
“Reality TV has nothing on me! My iPhone does everything I need — calls, alarm, calendar, journal, messenger — it gives ME the reality of living again after multiple extremely painful surgeries. But best of all, after the hair was gone and the brain surgery was over, post-op, my mom put my iPhone headphones on my ears and it was better than morphine: the music. And now MY phone keeps track of my life. I’m a writer and word lover, and I lost most of who I was to surgeries — the iPhone lets me stay connected to the world I once ran through without a care: now, it is my lifeline! Brain and back surgery took away my livelihood, but not my life. Carrying my iPhone all around is like a security blanket- safe, comforting, holding my world encapsulated within tiny, micro parts: photos of my family when I was in hospital, music to divert me from the agonizing pain, a camera to capture the world how I see it, and dang…it’s a Wonderful Life.”
Joshua Hawker’s cringe-worthy story plays upon a shared fear – a lost iPhone. Thankfully, his ends with an anonymous good Samaritan and a mysterious photograph:

“Right after I got my new iPhone4 I went out with the guys. I was having a great time until I made that realization…my phone was gone! I retraced my steps as best as possible, but found nothing. I held out hope for a few days, going without a phone hoping that I would magically find it, maybe in my pants pocket as I did laundry or even in the fridge when I would go to get a snack.
I finally gave up all hope on seeing my iPhone ever again. To my delight and surprise a few weeks passed and I got a small package in the mail. I opened it to find my beloved iPhone!
I was ecstatic!! It was like the reuniting to two long lost friends. The package had no indication of who had sent it. No letter, no return address, nothing, just the phone. The only indication of who returned my phone was a single picture: a pair of work boots. However it happened, I am grateful to be with my iPhone again. Thank you to whoever sent my phone back, I will be forever in your debt!
Thanks to everyone who sent us a story, and congratulations to our winners! We hope you enjoy your new Audyssey Audio Docks and reward your iPhones for all it’s done for you – including win you this contest!
