In the Audessey Set up on the Onkyo tx-nr616, it only gives me the option of front heigh or surround back speaker set up. How on earth do I get the front wide option to show? I have 7.1 speaker set up but no front wide option on Audessey automatic set up. Please help.

They should be of equivalent power capability as the fronts.

Hello Chris,

Thank you for your answer. But do you also have figures/estimates on what the speakers should be capable power handling wise (given equal sensitivity) in relation to L, C, R?

Hi Bernhard, the DSX Wides and Heights can be bookshelf type speakers. They need to be direct radiators, not dipoles as they are responsible for direct and ambient sound. Ideally, they should be from the same family as the front L, C, R speakers.

Hello, I'm going to upgrade my speaker system for wides and heights. Would it be good to have exactly the same speakers that I have for R, L and C for them or would speakers of the same line but one step smaller be sufficient?

The biggest improvement to 5.1 comes from Wides. The second most important addition to 5.1 is Heights. Back Surrounds are last. I can't really give a value on how much better these are. But, yes, Heights will definitely improve your 5.1 experience.

I have no problems with heights or rear speakers. My actual Sheerwood Newcastle r863 allows 7.1 but i only use 5.1. At present I'm looking for a new receptor (maybe Onkyo 3009) because the Audessy improvements. Today almost all new receptors are 9.2. Then I need to try heights or wides. Do you think if I use Heihgts and rear speakers only (9.1) is really as good as Wide and heihgts? A bit worse? A lot worse?

Hi, the Wide speakers need to be much wider than the front speakers in order to perform correctly. I don't think 1 m is enough... What about Heights? They are usually a little more WAF friendly.

I am wondering if I will notice better perform than 5.1 if I locate wide speakers 1 meter far from stereo (left-right) speakers but in parallel (in the same line, not in angle). That means open about 30º.
I doubt that my WAT allows me to put two more speakers out of my "Technological rack
PD: pardon for my English
