Audio Perfection Inc., has been a longtime installer of Denon Products. Its owner, Joe Tooley, first became curious about Audyssey when he noticed the Audyssey logos on the Denon AVRs he and his wife were installing. Now, he finds even his toughest customers enjoy the results of a professional calibration.
Joe tells his story:
How did you first hear about Audyssey professional calibrations?
I heard about you a year or so before Audyssey actually got into the Denon line, but I didn’t know much about it. Once I saw Audyssey in the Denon line, I did some research and found out what Audyssey was all about.
What prompted you to become an installer?
The first time I saw it myself was last year at CEDIA (2007). I checked out your demo room and the MultEQ Pro training was being held next door. After hearing the difference, I signed up, so I could do pro calibrations myself.
Tell me about your first installation?
My client had a good system and they liked the sound from it quite a bit. They were using a Pioneer Elite and were upgrading to a Denon 3808. The husband was sold pretty easily on the need for a calibration, but not his wife. She wasn’t even sure of the need for a new AVR, much less a professional calibration. Eventually, she agreed.
What was their room like?
It was very long and narrow, not ideal for sound at all. I was determined to get it right, though.
Did you have any difficulties?
I needed to upgrade the firmware on the 3808, but once we had everything ready, the installation process was just smooth as silk.
Since it was so easy and I was concerned about the room, I did the maximum number of measurements.
How did it sound?
The result was just astonishing. I mean just night and day. It was worth taking the time to calibrate lots of points. I printed up the curves and my customer got a real kick out of seeing the difference on paper.
The best part, though, came two days later, I got a call from my client. Not only was he delighted with the Audyssey Pro Calibration results, but also his wife, who told me she was going through all of her favorite movies just to hear them again on the newly calibrated system.
Any final thoughts?
I was really excited to see Audyssey MultEQ in so many of this year’s new product releases from Denon. I am sure I will be doing lots more professional calibrations.
