LOS ANGELES, CA – (Marketwire – October 26, 2010) – Audyssey, a leader in audio technology for the home, automotive and theater markets, today announced that its award-winning MultEQ XT technology is now being used by IMAX as part of IMAX’s new nXos Calibrator technology for new IMAX® theater installations. The system has already been installed in seven of the most recently opened IMAX theaters. In the past, movie theater calibration was a lengthy process that made it difficult to produce consistent results across the audience and from theater to theater.
Audyssey MultEQ XT uses a new way of capturing acoustical information in the time domain and a patented method based on fuzzy logic to create the necessary calibration filters. It produces an exceptionally precise equalization and calibration in a very short time and provides consistent sound quality for every theater. Theatergoers have come to expect a premium viewing experience from IMAX, and Audyssey is thrilled to play an integral role in helping deliver a truly immersive surround-sound experience.
The version of MultEQ XT used in IMAX theaters is highly customized to work specifically with IMAX’s specialized digital audio system and nXos Calibrator technology. The system uses many measuring points and creates an equalization filter for each loudspeaker to fix distortion caused by the room.
IMAX is committed to the premium theater experience: Its innovations in projection, audio, theater and camera design has resulted in the most immersive movie experience available. So good, in fact, that in 1997 IMAX was given an Academy Award for Scientific and Technical Achievement. To keep pushing the envelope and ensure its theaters remain ahead of the competition, IMAX selected Audyssey technology to fine-tune the audio in its theaters.
Audyssey MultEQ XT technology is best known as a standard feature in Audio Video Receivers (AVRs) used in home theaters. MultEQ XT technology improves sound by overcoming acoustical problems in the room. In the average living room, the result is dramatic. But even in well-designed rooms, such as theaters, MultEQ XT improves the audio and the sense of immersion by eliminating even the toughest acoustical problems.
Established in 2002, Audyssey is the industry leader in research-based audio technologies that correct acoustical problems in any listening environment. The company’s technologies are integrated into leading home theater products, automobiles, TVs, mobile phones and movie theaters. Audyssey also produces a premier line of consumer audio products, including the Audio Dock for iPhone, digital Media Speakers and the Audio Dock Air.
